Economy was passing through difficult times during 2008 and so was the SME segment of the industry. In such a changing economic environment, it became necessary to feel the pulse of SMEs with regards to various changing economic parameters.
Marhatta Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MCCIA) and MIT College of Management (MITCOM) had planned a joint survey to assess the effect of recession on SMEs in and around Pune. The objective of this survey was to collect data in order to assess the change in level of various parameters such as profits, sales, employment etc. The aim of the study was to evaluate the status of Pune SMEs prior to recession, through the recession and post recession. We also examined the effect of various government stimulus packages and schemes shelled out to help these units. It also gave an insight into the effectiveness of these government initiatives and the future outlook of these companies.
