Overview

 

Status of Women in Pune and Overview of Women Entrepreneurs :

 

 

Women from Pune are well educated, progressive, forward looking and well versed with the latest technology and posses good skill sets. Although the society does not go out of their way to encourage women; generally the society does not oppose women in entering business or different professions.

 

Mostly, it is their choice to become housewife or become a career woman.  Women are working in wide range of technical/non technical professions right from aviation to traditional teaching job.  

 

Pune  is a safe city having professional environment. It has many vocational training institutes even specially designed for women e.g. SNDT home science college, where courses are offered on the subjects like nutrition, textile design, child psychology etc, Cummins college of engineering for women which offers engineering courses in electronics and telecommunication, IT, mechanical, instrumentation etc.  Hence women have variety of educational as well as professional opportunities at Pune.

 

Not only the percentage of working women is increasing but women entrepreneurs is also increasing as women see the benefit of independence and flexibility of working hours.

 

Although large no. of women entrepreneurs are looking after their family business or have a low tech businesses like food products, jewelry, now an icreasing number of women entering into technical fields like IT, manufacturing, transport,travel and tourism etc.

 

 

The activities of this Committee are focused on start up women entrepreneurs.

 

The main activities are:

 

 

  Training

 

By identifying the needs various training programmes are designed and organized specially for women entrepreneurs.  Training in basic and advanced business skills like negotiation, HR management, financial management, strategic  planning , taxation, registrations, export formalities etc have been organized.

 

Case Study Presentations

 

Case study presentations by successful entrepreneurs are organized to share their knowledge and experiences with budding women entrepreneurs.

 

Industrial Visits

 

The visits are intended for introducing budding women entrepreneurs to the techniques and methods being practiced by successful women entrepreneurs. It includes interactive presentation and round of their unit.

 

The first visit was organized to Vishwadeep Spare Parts Pvt. Ltd. and Unitech Texmech Pvt. Ltd. Both the units are run by women and have implemented lean manufacturing practices.

 

Counseling

 

MCCIA guides women entrepreneurs in setting up their unit.   

 

WE-BIZPAD : This forum is formed to provide networking opportunities to business women.
